What had been a loosely-knit group of car nuts who frequented area cruise nights and car shows became, "officially", the Big Stone Cruisers in October 1999 following Madison, Minnesota's annual Octoberfest Car Show.  Foregoing a more formal organization, the group hoped to keep things somewhat low-key by agreeing on a "spokesperson" rather than a president. Jimmie Layne was elected the club's first spokesperson, with Jimmie's wife Carol assuming secretary duties. Terry Kalberg was elected treasurer.  The following year, the Big Stone Cruisers took over the annual CornFest Cruise-In.  Nearly 70 musclecars, street machines, street rods and other collector vehicles invaded the lakeside show grounds in August 2000. In addition, a very successful Cruise Night brought over 40 area cars to the Ortonville Dairy Queen in early September of that year.  Big Stone Cruisers' meetings are held monthly at members' homes and garages or other suitable meeting venues around the area.. from parks to pizza places!  The Cruisers have also assembled a summer Cruise Calendar with monthly destinations around the area (mainly eating places.. surprise-surprise!!) that gives members a chance to blow the dust off their rides and enjoy the summer scenery.  Members continue to join neighboring area clubs like the Scenic Valley Cruisers from the Montevideo-Granite Falls area; the L.A. (Lake Area) Cruisers from Sisseton, SD; and Vintiques of Watertown SD for events and cruise nights. For the past several years we' ve hosted a dessert stop following the "Chicken Chase", (also formerly known as the "Ike's Run") which celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2005.  But that, as they say, is another story...  (there's that "food" thing again. Go figure!)   And the Big Stone Cruisers' Halloween Costume Parties at the Laynes' have assumed a somewhat legendary status as well!

Today, the Big Stone Cruisers membership numbers over 20 families and individuals from across western Minnesota and eastern South Dakota.  We're a laid-back bunch, but never at a loss for fun.
